My electric guitar strap button falls off completely. Larger screws keep making bigger holes. Is there a fix?
When I go stand to play, my guitar strap button and screw eventually pop off completely. I tried using larger screws since the smaller ones slide off like soap now that the hole has become larger. The larger screws, within 30 minutes, fell off and created a fatter hole. I'm an idiot... so go easy on me if I'm doing something obviously wrong.
Your best bet is to take your guitar to a good guitar tech and get it fixed professionally. If your guitar is valuable that's the only thing I'd recommend.
If your guitar is a beginner's guitar or of lower value then the next best thing to do is to drill out the hole to a standard size that wood dowels come in, such as 1/8" or 1/4". Buy the appropriate size dowel; any home center like Home Depot or Lowe's sells them. Once there's a clean, straight hole cut a piece of dowel to fit the hole exactly and glue it in with lots of wood glue (also called carpenter's glue).
After a day when the glue has dried, drill a small hole that's adequate for the original strap button screw and reattach it.
