How did professional sports teams travel in the old days?
Since traveling by air was not a readily available option, how did taking slower transport affect the leagues? Surely each NBA team couldn't play 80+ games a season like it does now?
And what about international competition whereby the tournaments are held in far off continents?
They traveled by bus and train. It was the reason why conferences and divisions they were all the teams or schools in an area that all played each other so the travel distances were not too great.
As for international competition they usually went by boat, and it did take a long time. That is why so many of the long standing international events are years apart (i.e. Olympics every 4 yrs, World Cup every 4yrs,).
