How could Penn State go to the Orange Bowl over Iowa?
Since Iowa beat Penn State and they are tied in conference and overall, so wouldn't Iowa have the tie breaker?
In theory you are correct however bowls are not about your on the field performance they are about making money. The bowl figure heads have calculated that Penn State will sell more tickets and have higher TV ratings if the Orange Bowl is left with a choice of the two 2nd place Big Ten teams. Iowa is projected as the Fiesta bowls Big Ten choice so it comes down to how the other bowls select their at large selections.
If bowls were about on field performance an undefeated Boise State would not have gone to a second tier bowl last year when a two loss Ohio State went to the Fiesta.
David W- Actually you are wrong, yes Utah locked up the automatic spot for a buster but the Fiesta still chose 2 loss Ohio State who were ranked lower than Boise State in their own rankings for an at large.
