2wd to 4wd conversion?
I have a 1983 ford f-250 (not supercab) with two wheel rear wheel drive w/manual 3spd+overdrive on the floor. where can I get a conversion kit to convert it to four wheel drive(not full time).Parts I need include transfer case, front driveshaft, front axle, wheel hub locks and (probably not real name) cab transfer case cover (plate to cover the hole I cut to mount with hole for four wheel drive shifter and manual transmission gearshift. and anything else I missed. links to sites would be very helpful salvage or otherwise.
I was planning to tear the truck apart to do some restoration anyway (engine detailing, 347 stroker kit, new paint etc). I just bought it a week ago from a private party.
not a bad conversion if u got the time, ok first u gota pull that whole front end and disconnect it from the suspension then find u a 4x4 front end (with matching gears as the rear) and put it in its place. next up is putting a 4 wheel drive tranny behind that engine including tranfer case to replace ur old one or modify the one u have which isnt a bad way to go either just gota take ur tranny to a tranny shop and u will still have to buy the transfer case. then just hook up all the other coponents u disconnected while taking everthing apart and u got urself a brand new 4 wheel drive. but if ur truck has independent suspension in the front which i dont think that model does but if it does, dont even bother sell it and buy a 4x4
